Toshiba Enters 13.3-inch Notebook Market

IRVINE, Calif. (June 5, 2007) – Toshiba’s Digital Products Division, a division of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., today launched the feature-rich Tecra(R) M8-S8011, Toshiba’s new 13.3-inch diagonal widescreen notebook. With an estimated single unit price (ESUP) of $1,399(1), the highly mobile Tecra M8 maintains Toshiba’s emphasis on value and performance.

Toshiba’s Tecra M8 notebook features a 13.3-inch diagonal widescreen TruBrite(TM) LCD display to help create an optimal balance of size, weight and screen clarity. With a 13.3-inch diagonal widescreen display, the Tecra M8 offers users a 20 percent larger viewing area than a 12.1-inch diagonal widescreen notebook, while maintaining a more compact form-factor when compared to a standard 14.1-inch diagonal widescreen notebook. The Tecra M8’s brilliant TruBrite(TM) display technology provides superb color, contrast and image quality, optimizing the users overall viewing experience.

Starting at 4.5 pounds(2), the Tecra M8 integrates a built-in DVD SuperMulti drive enabling mobile users to read and write a wide variety of CD and DVD media formats. The Tecra M8 also includes a 1.3 megapixel webcam and microphone built into the LCD bezel, perfect for video conferencing or staying in touch with colleagues and family members.

Toshiba’s Tecra M8-S8011 features the new Intel(R) Centrino(R) Duo processor technology. This mobile microarchitecture includes the latest Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo Processor(3), Mobile Intel(R) GM965 Express chipset and Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN supporting draft 802.11n(6) wireless(4). Optimized for Windows(R) Vista(TM), the Tecra M8 will also include solid graphics(5) performance through the Intel(R) Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100.

With the new Intel(R) Centrino(R) Duo processor technology, the Core 2 Duo processor provides the Tecra M8 with the power and performance needed for today’s resource-intensive applications. Also, the Tecra M8 offers the draft 802.11n wireless protocol delivering up to five times the throughput performance and up to two times the range(6) of the 802.11g standard. With draft 802.11n, Tecra M8 users will experience faster connection speeds and help eliminate network connection interruptions while moving about the office. The Tecra M8 also features Gigabit Ethernet and Bluetooth(R) version 2.0 plus Enhanced Data Rate (EDR) to complete the system’s broad range of connectivity options.

Toshiba designed the Tecra M8 to provide a stylish and visually impressive professional notebook, while incorporating improved usability features. With a striking silver-metallic case, the sleek Tecra M8 opens up to reveal Toshiba’s user-friendly keyboard and touchpad, both designed to enhance navigation and usability while delivering a feeling of confidence and comfort.

The Tecra M8-S8011 will include Intel(R) Turbo Memory, a technology that improves battery life and performance by reducing the time it takes the system to boot, launch applications and return from hibernation mode. Intel(R) Turbo Memory technology also enables the Tecra M8 to help run its Windows Vista(TM) Business operating system quicker and with greater efficiency, a feature that saves the mobile professional’s valuable time.

To assist in safeguarding the notebook’s hard drive and critical data from the bumps, jolts and knocks of daily mobile computing, the Tecra M8 integrates a 3D accelerometer, HDD vibration dome and vibration dampening material. The Tecra M8 is available with a one-year standard, limited warranty(11), which includes carry-in support at Authorized Service Providers throughout the country; or customers may utilize any of the more than 4,460 UPS Stores and Mail Boxes Etc. locations nationwide for packaging and delivery of the product to a centralized depot for prompt turnaround service. Customers can also choose to upgrade the notebook’s service plans, including up to four years of extended warranty coverage.
