Illinois' Frillman Photographers Will Fold
via Knight Ridder

The digital age is forcing a long-standing Belleville photographer to close after 53 years.

Chris Frillman said his family's Frillman Photographers, 7607 W. Main St., will close sometime later this year and is not accepting anymore requests to shoot weddings. He said the decision was based on the mounting expense to retooling the studio from film to digital capacity.

Frillman said he is sad the business his father, Ralph Frillman, founded in downtown Belleville in 1948 is ending its run. Although he has not worked in the family studio in years, Frillman, a freelance photographer, fears this advancement in photography could be detrimental.

"Technology often finds us new and better ways to do things," Frillman said. "My fear is 100, 200 years from now our descendants will look back and won't have anything because it's put on a disk and the disk gets scratched or the disk gets lost."
