Studio Photography Editor Named to International Photographic Council Board

Melville, NY (August 27, 2007) – Cygnus Business Media, a leading diversified business-to-business media company, announced today Alice Miller, editorial director for the company’s Imaging Group and editor of Studio Photography: The Business Behind the Image, has been named to the International Photographic Council’s (IPC) Board of Directors. IPC is a multinational, non-governmental organization of the United Nations composed of representatives from every major sector of the photographic industry.

Founded in 1974, the IPC is dedicated to increasing worldwide recognition of photography as a universal means of communication, through the adoption of the motto "Peace through Understanding, Understanding Through Photography, the Universal Language."

“Few industries can stir nations or draw attention to critical local and global issues the way photography can,” says Miller. “IPC understands the enormous contribution photographers bring to the world and I’m very proud to sit on its board.”

Miller also currently serves as vice president of IPC and will chair of the 2008 Professional Photographers Award Luncheon scheduled for next spring. A dedicated member of the photography industry, earlier this year Miller served as sole juror of the Center for Fine Art Photography's 2007 Black & White Exhibition. She has also served as a judge for the International Black & White Spider Awards for the past two years. In 2006, she was a guest speaker at the Defense Information School Photography Workshop for military photojournalists.

Before joining Cygnus, Miller was assistant vice president and editor at Johnson & Higgins, overseeing the award-winning employee magazine and the 150th year commemorative issue for the Wall Street firm. She previously served as editor at the Young Presidents’ Organization, where she produced the award-winning monthly magazine for the worldwide membership. She began her publishing career at Cosmopolitan magazine, assisting the art director before becoming copy editor.

Miller lives on Long Island, New York, with her husband and teenage son.
