Sanctuary for Families Showcases Photo Exhibit The Long Journey: Surviving Domestic Violence

New York, NY, March 18, 2009 --Sanctuary for Families and Fujifilm hosted an event led by professional photographer and International Center of Photography graduate Paige Stoyer. She worked with and helped four domestic violence survivors express their stories through photography. The empowering photos were on display at The New School Aronson Galleries in New York City and depicted the documented struggles of domestic violence victims.

Over the course of many months, Paige Stoyer, a volunteer for Sanctuary for Families, had the privilege of documenting the struggles of several Sanctuary clients as they took the "long journey" away from domestic violence, toward a safe and independent life. Ms. Stoyer also taught these same women how to take pictures as a way to rediscover - through photography - the self esteem, strength, and joy that had been taken away from them through years of abuse.

The exhibit featured the photographs of Ms. Stoyer and of her students, all of whom are domestic violence survivors. Images are available for sale, and all proceeds benefit Sanctuary. To obtain more details, go to:
