TIBURON, Calif. , Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- VarsityPix, the only web site that provides a single location for amateur photographers to share their high school action sports photos online, . Since 2007, over 130,000 photos of more than 2,200 games from schools throughout California have been uploaded and shared on VarsityPix, which also provides important revenue to these schools' athletics programs.
"When we started 18 months ago, we knew we were offering something unique," said Bill Schneider , president and co-founder of the company with his wife, Karen. "We're excited that VarsityPix has caught on as fast as it has, confirming our belief that parents, students, teachers, coaches, and fans need a place to share their unique memories of high school sports."
Amateur photographers upload their photos to VarsityPix, which are reviewed and placed on the site. VarsityPix gives each school a share of the profits from photo sales. The photographers can also receive a share of the profits from photo sales or direct that it be given to the participating school's athletics program. "The majority of our photographers choose to give their share to their school which means everyone wins," Schneider added.
VarsityPix grew out of Karen and Bill Schneider's own experience as parents of student athletes. A dedicated amateur sports photographer, Bill chronicled his son's sports, sharing teammates' photos with their parents. As digital photography took off and demand for photosharing grew, Bill and Karen saw the opportunity to create a centralized hub for sharing game photos while providing much needed financial support for the participating schools' athletics programs.
"We know that without VarsityPix, most parents wouldn't have a single picture of their athletes in action," Schneider added. "Our goal is to continue to provide those memories by adding schools throughout California and eventually nationwide."
