Each year PTN magazine honors one specialty dealer who we consider to be the best of the best, and in 2008 those honors went to Jerry and Rosemary Sullivan, owners of Precision Camera & Video (www.precision-camera.com) of Austin, Texas.
The Sullivans were presented with the PTN 2008 Dealer of the Year award at a reception in their honor during PMA 2009 in Las Vegas. Amid a crowded ballroom, with family, friends and fellow photo industry businesspeople: other dealers, lab owners, manufacturers and distributors present to support them, Jerry and Rosemary Sullivan were presented with the PTN Dealer of the Year award.
Speeches by PTN's publisher, Ian Littauer and editor, Diane Berkenfeld, started off the evening's festivities. Industry veteran Bill McCurry spoke to the crowded room as did Precision's general manager, Gregg Burger. Then it was the Sullivans' turn. Jerry and Rosemary stepped up to the podium and offered their humble thanks for the honors bestowed upon them.
Sullivan's love affair with photography began nearly half a century ago when his father gave him an old Graflex Anniversary 4x5 camera. After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin, he returned to the field of photography as a camera repair technician. In 1976, he opened a modest Precision Camera Repair working out of his home. Ten years after beginning his business from his home, he would have his first $1,000,000 year, eventually adding a one-hour photo lab, cameras and equipment, expanding from 750 square feet to more than 10,000 square feet, which includes the corporate office, service center and warehouse.
In 2005, they remodeled the former darkroom area of the store to make room for the new Digital Photo Lounge. Here Precision's customers could have a cup of coffee, edit, and instantly print their favorite pictures.
