More than one hundred leaders of the mobile and traditional imaging industry gathered in Denver recently for the 61st Annual Conference of the International Imaging Industry Association (I3A), the leading global association for the imaging industry. The interactive, technology-focused conference, themed Inspiring Imaging Innovation, took place June 6-8. Links to published presentation material may be found athttp://www.i3a.org.
Presentations and panel discussions covered cutting-edge topics, including:The Future of Innovation Fluidic Lenses...A Vision of the Future, Compressive Imaging Online Photo Services: Dead or Alive?, Image Stabilization, Camera Phone Image Quality Panel, Subjective Evaluation Metadata, The Elusive Grail of Imaging Megapixels: Truth and Consequence
Attendees also enjoyed a dazzling presentation by underwater photographer David Doubilet, and witnessed the presentation of the 2007 I3A Achievement and Safety Awards.
The 2007 I3A Achievement Award was given to George Lynch of HP, a longtime industry leader and former I3A Chairman. The I3A Achievement Award is given to an individual who has been nominated by others in the I3A community and selected by a committee of judges. It was created to recognize, encourage and celebrate that person's contributions to the advancement of the imaging industry through participation in I3A.
"George and I have worked together for a number of years, and I can tell you from personal experience he is a most worthy recipient of this award," said I3A Chairman Harald Siegers of Felix Schoeller, who presented Lynch with the 2007 award. "George is a man of creativity, vision, integrity and not least, a sense of humor, which many of you will recognize from his tenure as Chairman of I3A in recent years."
This year, I3A's Safety Excellence Award Program honored Agfa Corporation, Eastman Kodak Company, Foveon, Inc., FUJIFILM U.S.A., Inc., FUJIFILM e-Systems, Inc., FUJIFILM Imaging Colorants, Inc., Fujicolor Processing, Inc., FUJIFILM Recording Media Manufacturing USA, Inc., Sony Electronics Inc. and Texas Instruments Incorporated. "Best in Class" safety winners were Agfa Corporation, Eastman Kodak Company, Konica Minolta Business Solutions and Texas Instruments Incorporated.
Camera Phone Image Quality Working Meeting
As was the case at last year's event, I3A held a face-to-face kick-off meeting for the next phase of its Camera Phone Image Quality Initiative (CPIQ), which took place prior to the Annual Conference's formal program. The kick-off meeting attracted over 50 representatives from imaging industry companies, including major handset makers, carriers and key component manufacturers.
This meeting served as the launch for Phase 2 of I3A's highly regarded and critically needed Camera Phone Image Quality Initiative, which will yield the industry an image quality performance rating and testing program. I3A invites additional companies to join the Initiative and participate in developing the next set of deliverables. Information on membership may be obtained from Noel Mareno, firstname.lastname@example.org, (214) 244-1927.
Inspiring Imaging Innovation was sponsored by HP, FotoNation, Nethra Imaging, Eastman Kodak Company, Felix Schoeller, and FUJIFILM.
