STOW, Ohio -- Protecting graphics from moisture, scratching, scuffing, UV light and other environmental damage is a serious concern for printers and applicators but is also a requirement for image protection.
In 2007, MACtac® spoke to its customers about the latest concerns in image safety and potential solutions. Surpassing customer expectation, MACtac developed the new PERMACOLOR® ColorGard series of overlaminating films, featuring lightning quick wet-out and non-silvering properties to help speed production by allowing customers to quickly determine the quality of the finished graphic.
PERMACOLOR ColorGard offers a 3.2-mil flexible vinyl with an advanced, optically clear, acrylic adhesive formulated to tackle the latest customer trend - adhesion to UV-printed graphics. ColorGard is a three- to five-year solution for protecting point-of-purchase graphics, signage, exhibits, displays, menu boards and photos where adhesive performance is critical.
"Many forms of signage aren't intended to last for years and years but are sometimes needed to withstand harsh environmental conditions for a significant amount of time," said Mary Ann Kucera, MACtac Graphic Products. "ColorGard was developed specifically for these medium-term applications. Its smooth liner and excellent wet-out properties make the print look great right out of the laminator and, with a uniform finish and no silvering or image distortion, stay great."
In addition to standard performance requirements, MACtac research and development began with a very high benchmark for peels, shears and tacks.
"Not only did our team research ink systems, we also extensively evaluated a variety of substrates and alternatives to reach the desired customer result," Kucera said. "We're happy to present ColorGard as an innovative choice that is the new benchmark for intermediate image protection and a valuable addition to MACtac’s PERMACOLOR family."
PERMACOLOR ColorGard overlaminating films are available in matte and luster finishes. ColorGard features a 1.5-mil polyester liner, which creates a smooth adhesive coat for distortion-free lamination, enhanced images and colors and minimizes risk of rips and tears during lamination due to liner strength.
