This will be the second year for the Sports Photographers Association of America, a PMA member association, to feature the educational SPAA Sports Photography Traveling Seminars. The seminars are aimed at those who are looking to build their current sports photography business, just starting in the sports photography market and looking to develop a successful business and those searching for a new profit opportunity to expand and grow business.
The speaker lineup begins with Jeff Gump, Gump's Sports Photography, Jacksonville, Fla. Gump was introduced to youth sports almost 20 years ago and has photographed more than 800,000 athletes through his company.
John Pittman, Sport Stars Inc., Northampton, Pa., a photo manufacturing company of 30 years, specializes in the youth activities market. The company introduced baseball cards to the Pennsylvania youth market in 1977, and continues to provide professional trading cards and unique photos to customers.
After 10 years of travel as a family portrait photographer, Frank Harrison, Time Piece Photography Inc, Paducah, Ky., retired and eventually moved into the youth sports market.
Various topics will be featured in the discussions, such as: posed action shots, learning the basics of the business, logistics of the photo shoot, online vs. on-site distribution of images and effective sales strategies, among other topics.
The first three seminars are set for Monday, June 25 in Portland, Ore., at the Embassy Suites Portland - Airport; Wednesday, June 27 in Long Beach, Calif. at the Marriott Long Beach and Friday, June 29 in San Francisco, Calif. at the Doubletree Hotel San Francisco Airport. The seminar takes place 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and costs $95 (including lunch).
SPAA Seminar sites in late July will be Dallas, Texas (July 23), Kansas City, Kan. (July 25) and Denver, Colo. (July 27).
