Pelican Expands, Names Candidates to Two Key Posts



TORRANCE, CA –­ November 6, 2007- Continuing its dynamic global growth trend, Pelican™ Products, a global leader in the design and manufacture of advanced lighting systems and virtually indestructible cases for protecting valuable equipment has created the new position of Vice President of Worldwide Operations and tapped Nick Newman for the post.

Newman plans to utilize his more than 20 years of global supply chain experience and critical expertise to efficiently run and continuously improve every aspect of Pelican’s customer-focused supply chain operations. He is also responsible for the leadership of more than 400 Pelican plant staff (on two continents) to ensure that the company’s ambitious worldwide manufacturing goals are met.

Prior to joining Pelican, Newman championed Six Sigma & LEAN implementations for Nokia™, Inc. one of the world’s largest cellular phone manufacturing operations as Vice President of Operations, Logistics and Sourcing for the Americas Region. More recently, he served as Vice President of Worldwide Operations for Magellan® Navigation (formerly Thales Navigation), one of the world’s leading providers of GPS Solutions.

Newman has run Manufacturing and Supply Chain Operations for other World Class Companies in Europe, Asia and South America and holds an HNC degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Brooklands Technical College in the United Kingdom.

In related company news, Pelican has promoted Kevin Deighton to Vice President of Research and Product Development. “Kevin Deighton has been a driving force in Pelican’s product development for many years,” said John Padian, Chief Operating Officer for Pelican Products. “His market expertise, leadership and passion for developing innovative designs are a key component of Pelican’s success.”

In his new position, Deighton will use his more than 15 years of engineering and technical expertise to lead the research and development of all new Pelican products from concept to manufacturing to market.

Before his promotion, Deighton served as Pelican’s Director of Product Development where he has managed and launched more than 60 of Pelican’s 107 products. Career highlights include leading the development of the Los Angeles Police Department’s 7060 LED flashlight and the company’s transition from traditional incandescent lights toward tougher and more energy-efficient LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes).

Prior to joining Pelican, Deighton served as a Mechanical Engineer for Vickers Defense Systems, one of England’s oldest and most venerable armament builders. While there he helped create designs for both the British and US military battle tanks and multiple rocket launchers. He also served as Engineering Manager for a real-estate lock box manufacturer, Multacc. Deighton holds a MBA from Cal State Long Beach and a degree in Technology and Management Science from the University of Bradford UK.
