HP Honors 60 Years of Documentary Photography

PALO ALTO, Calif., June 13, 2007 – HP today announced that it will be celebrating the 60th anniversary of Magnum Photo by sponsoring 12 exhibits of Magnum photographers during the 2007 Magnum Festival. The Magnum Festival is a series of photography, film and journalism exhibitions in New York City celebrating the art of documentary. The exhibits continue through July 2007.

Throughout the festival, Magnum photographers will print more than 600 photographs with the HP Designjet Z3100 Photo Printer series, leveraging the printer’s intuitive color management with embedded spectrophotometer and 12 HP Vivera pigment inks for long-lasting, exquisite color.

“For more than 60 years, Magnum Photos has been one the industry’s most prolific photography organization and played a key role in the advancement of photography worldwide,” said Enrique Lores, vice president and general manager, Large Format Printing Division, HP. “We are pleased to support the 2007 Magnum Festival and work closely with many of its photographers to produce high-impact exhibits by leveraging the latest digital technology.”

Some Magnum Festival exhibits in New York City printed on HP technology include:

· Trent Parke – “Minutes to Midnight,” Alice Austen House, June 10 – June 30, 2007. The exhibition showcases Parke’s two-year road trip around Australia documenting the country’s culture and traditions.

· Magnum Group – “Muhammad Ali,” 401 Projects, June 13 – July 29, 2007. Curated by Muhammad Ali’s Maryum 'May May' Ali and long-time manager and friend Gene Kilroy, the exhibition mingles iconic images of the Champ with rare glimpses of the man behind the myth.

· David Alan Harvey – “Living Proof,” Powerhouse Arena, May 31 – July 1, 2007. For two years, Harvey immersed himself into local cultures around the world to photograph the history of the hip hop industry from its origin on the streets of the South Bronx in the 1970’s.

· Thomas Hoepker – “Pictures from a Vanished Land,” The German Consulate, June 6 – July 13, 2007. Initially working as a staff photographer and correspondent for Stern, Hoepker was among the first with a special permit to travel freely between West and East Berlin, managing to portray everyday life in the "brother country" (East Germany) as realistically and impartially as possible.

“HP’s extensive involvement with our organization and members is a testament to photographers’ faith in HP printing technology to produce professional, enduring prints with the quality they demand,” said Mark Lubell, director of Magnum Photo.

“The HP Designjet Z Photo Printer series has changed how photographers print digitally providing freedom to print exhibitions in-studio with instant feedback on output quality and the ability to re-create that same quality again and again.”

HP will also offer demonstrations that feature the HP Designjet Z3100 Photo Printer series at Magnum Festival receptions and workshops. Magnum Photos and HP will host an interactive learning seminar on managing the digital workflow from “Shot to Print,” where attendees will get a chance to learn best practices in using the latest technology like the HP Designjet Z3100 Photo Printer series.

HP focuses on simplifying technology experiences for all of its customers – from individual consumers to the largest businesses. With a portfolio that spans printing, personal computing, software, services and IT infrastructure, HP is among the world’s largest IT companies, with revenue totaling $97.1 billion for the four fiscal quarters ended April 30, 2007.
