Photographers' Association Honors Newspaper, Staffers

The Lexington Herald-Leader was named Newspaper of the Year for its division at the annual Kentucky News Photographers Association Still and Television Photography competition held recently in Louisville.

The paper, in the division of papers with circulations over 25,000, also took first place in the Team Coverage category.

In addition, Herald-Leader photographer David Stephenson won the Sports Photographer of the Year title with a portfolio that included images from the 2005 Kentucky Derby in Louisville. He also took first place in the General News and Portrait/Personality photo category, second place in the Feature Picture Story and Sport Feature categories. He was the runner-up for the Photographer of the Year award and in the still photo competition.

Other staff photographers honored were:

Mark Cornelison, honorable mentions in the Picture Package category.

Janet Worne, honorable mention in the Feature Picture category.

Charles Bertram, second-place award in the Sports Action category.
