“We just started doing maternity about a year ago,” says Stacy. “With that we developed a one-year program. We do a first-year album, starting out with the maternity pictures, and then going right into newborn and three, six, nine, and 12 months. We realized that the parents aren’t just going to settle for the album at the end. They’re going to want prints with it. We’ve started offering CDs and DVDs in the past six months, as well. We have them available as bonuses in some of our higher packages.”
The Walkers have also recently embarked on a custom framing venture. “We loved the idea of doing custom hand-painted frames to go along with the baby pictures to hang in their rooms,” explains Stacy. “You give us a color scheme for your room, and we have an artist who custom-paints the frame in that color scheme to go along with the image you selected. We’re picking up our first sample in the next couple of weeks and we’re excited about it!”
In the end, though, it’s the little personal touches that keep the Walkers tight with their clients. “It may not seem like a big thing to the average person, but helping a mom carry stuff out to her car when she’s got a toddler and a newborn in tow is a big deal—it’s more personal,” says Andrea. “Or we’ll have a little treat for the kids (with Mom’s permission!), such as a bag of cookies or a bottle of water.
“To kids, that’s a big deal. It’s just one more little thing that doesn’t cost anything, but goes a long way. And it’s just a nice thing to do.”
