Although they continue their love affair with film, much of the Arcaras’ work is digital. “John loves the digital darkroom and the ability to manipulate images through Photoshop, while I like being able to see an image right away,” Lovina says. “It has improved our photographic abilities and our album design has become more creative.”
“Our equipment always has to be ready, fast, and accurate,” says John. “We use Quantum Turbos to power the strobes, so they recycle quickly. And the Nikon D2X and Fujifilm FinePix S2 Pro are quick and accurate with their focus and metering abilities.
Knowing that no matter how long they are in the business, there’s always something new to learn and capture keeps their work fresh and new. And from John’s “equipment junky” perspective, there always new gear to buy.
“It’s just the two of us here,” says Lovina. “We enjoy doing it all ourselves. We are both avid shooters. John handles more of the technical stuff, while I take care of the business and service end of it.”
The Arcaras will be welcoming a new addition to the family soon. Someday he or she will be ready for anything . . .
