Using the Kanematsu Shinko CHC-S1245

At the sports events I shoot, we take pictures at a site and download them to a laptop. Customers come by and view the flat-screen monitor (I have a number of those), and they select the pictures they want. We print 8x10s right there onsite. There are a couple of benefits to the Shinko S1245: The quality and durability are excellent, and you can really measure what your profits are, because you know how much it’s going to cost; there’s no variation in ink. Every page costs exactly the same. I went to PMA this year and spent three days looking at every piece of equipment out there. I ran some test prints on every printer in that range; I really went after it strictly from a performance and cost standpoint, and in my investigations, this printer won, hands-down. I was so impressed I bought it right out of PMA. It seems to be bulletproof: I’ve run about 1,200 prints through it, and I haven’t had to service it, or had a misfeed or jam. The task is really to get enough workstations to keep that machine busy, because it is literally printing money!

In addition to the sports I shoot, which I’m probably most well-known for, I also do a lot of corporate holiday parties that require on-site printing. It can be any corporate event, particularly if there’s a corporate meeting and they require 5x7 portraits that evening for executives or groups. The portability and speed of the Mitsubishi CP-9550D printer are great. It’s also very durable and reliable. You’re sometimes shipping it from one location to another, and you box it up, FedEx it, and it gets to where you need it to go just fine. Plus, to me, quality is number one. If you have a printer where the image quality is just OK, then you get just an OK print. I strive for quality. If it doesn’t look good, I don’t like it. The Mitsubishi was the first one to really start introducing these high-quality, high-speed printers. The design of the CP-9550D also attracted me, as well as its ease of use: It’s simple to set up, and there’s not much you have to do with the software to get it going. When they say plug-and-play, it’s definitely a plug-and-play printer.
