He is even unique in the way he presents his images. Plota has no printed portfolio. His representative, Janice Moses, sends digital portfolios via courier or Federal Express to clients, as well as a 17-inch Apple PowerBook to view the images.
"When potential clients receive the package," he says, "it offers a 12-second Flash presentation of my fashion, lifestyle, and advertising work."
Plota uses digital capture for almost all of his images. He shoots using his Canon EOS-1Ds and Profoto 7B battery packs, and he has an order in for the 16.7-megapixel EOS-1Ds Mark II. He still uses the Contax 645 film camera with a red 25 filter for black & white images. "Black & white is one place where digital has yet to catch up to film," he says.
So what's next for Plota? He's about to shoot advertisements for Arrow. "They are a big name in Europe, more so than in the United States," he says. "And they're planning to change that by revving up a major ad campaign for this fall."
Both projects are sure to be new Plota classics.
