Recipe For Success

Food, Glorious Food

Photography isn't even Tonelli's full-time job. Teaching is. "Five days a week from 2 to 9 p.m., I teach subjects such as 'Cuisine of Europe and the Mediterranean' at the Culinary Institute." After spending early mornings with his family, he starts taking pictures. Shooting what he cooks serves up quite a competitive advantage.

"I have total control," he says. "As a chef, I might have one expectation of the final result. A photographer may have another. I fit both roles."

Francesco Of All Trades

Tonelli, successful in many fields, says he has grown as a photographer so much that he hopes it will one day be his full-time profession. "I photographed a 2006 calendar for BrownTrout Publishing (below) and would love to write and photograph a complete book project."

He also recently added seafood processor Rich-SeaPak to his clientele. He used his new Kodak DCS Pro 14nx to shoot this assignment (both images to the right).

"The Kodak DCS Pro 14nx is amazing for food," he says. "It also has upgradable software that lets me use my equipment with the latest technology available for the brand. And Kodak's customer service team is outstanding."

His eye-catching website, www.francescotonelli.com, adds extra lift to his business. In addition to serving as an online portfolio for potential clients to review his work, it houses his custom-made photo galleries where clients review and select images, and it supports FTP delivery of his image files."

If Zagat Survey evaluated photographers, a review of Tonelli might read something like this: "Relatively new to the scene, Francesco Tonelli's images are transcendent. His clarity and closeups are equal to a seasoned photographic veteran."

Speaking of seasoned … thanks for the feast, Tonelli. Bon appetit.
