Colón's educational background and experience prepared him
well for conducting marketing seminars and workshops. With a degree
in marketing from Cal State Fullerton, he started his studio while
attending the school.
"The teachers would be talking in class using wedding photography as an example. The other students had puzzled looks on their faces, but I knew what I needed. Marketing is so important because you can be the most creative and wonderful photographer, but if no one knows about you, you won't make any money."
Prior to shooting wedding photography, Colón was hired by
schools and promoters as a freelance sports shooter. One of his
steady gigs was snapping away at cage fighting. "My life was
threatened many times by the teammates, who are instructors or
coaches in boxing," he says.
Those days are long gone. Wanting proficiency in one niche, Colon
opted for "love" over "war." And that's a good thing.
