Getting Past the Hype At PMA 2004

The ULTRA COLOR film 400 replaces PORTRA 400UC film in the U.S. and Canada only; it began shipping last month. And the BW400CN film replaces Kodak Professional T400CN and PORTRA 400BW films worldwide, with availability this month.

Tripod Introductions

Hakuba, a division of ToCAD America Inc., has announced it's new Multipod for use with cell phone cameras, pocket digital/film cameras, and even digital pen-size cameras.

The Multipod is ultra-compact, lightweight, and convenient. Distinctive in design, it's offered in three colors: silver, blue, and pink, with a translucent body and head. The Multipod comes with a carrying pouch.

Velbon, also a division of ToCAD America Inc., has expanded its line of professional carbon fiber tripods by introducing the new El Carmagne 530, 540, 630, and 640 Series.

These extremely light yet sturdy tripods are constructed with rigid carbon fiber legs, a superior, durable magnesium body, and magnesium panheads. The tripods come standard with a tripod case, stone bag, and accessory hook.

Manfrotto, distributed by Bogen Imaging in the U.S., introduced its innovative new 322RC2 Grip Action Ball Head. Engineered specifically for fast-action photography, the Manfrotto 322RC2 is the ideal solution for sports coverage, fashion shoots, journalism, birdwatching, nature photography, and virtually every other photographic application. The 322RC2 can handle cameras up to and including medium format.

PMA welcomed a new player and new "brand" to the show this year. OSN, a newly established distributor of digital accessories and tripods, debuted its line of accessories and digital kits. OSN introduced its Digital Accessory Kit, in 11 configurations, each offering a mix of products.

Included in some of the kits is the Mini Table Tripod (OS-30). Perfect for both digital and photographic cameras, it is equipped with a multi-positioning ball socket panhead, three-section adjustable legs and rubber, non-slip foot pads. It reaches a maximum height of 11-inches.

Digital Media & Accessory Introductions

Delkin Devices is now shipping a FireWire Reader/Writer for CompactFlash cards. Delkin's new external tabletop eFilm FireWire Reader/Writer (Reader-24) is designed for high-end digital photography enthusiasts and pros who want to dramatically speed workflows. The Reader-24 is plug-and-play, and works with any PC or Mac.

Sakar International, under it's Digital Concepts brand, unveiled a 9-in-1 Card Reader/Writer, for Mac and PC. Five slots make the Digital Concepts 9-in-1 Card Reader/Writer compatible with every memory format being used in digital photography today.

PNY is offering new high-speed Optima CompactFlash cards with a 35x data transfer rate. The lightning fast cards support 128MB, 256MB, 512MB and 1GB storage capacities.

PNY also introduced a new Verto USB 2.0 Flash Drive series, for the gamer,featuring the distinctive Verto morphing head image.

Micro Solutions
showcased its RoadStor portable media player. This diverse product is compact yet powerful and rugged enough for viewing, copying, toting and sharing digital photos, audio and video almost anywhere, with or without a computer. It combines a digital photo viewer, CD burner, DVD player and MP3 player all in one package.

With a rechargeable Lithium Ion battery that delivers two hours of play time, and about the size of a VHS tape, RoadStor travels easily. Simple to operate, it connects directly to a TV, PC or Mac.
