A. NIKON INC. (www.nikondigital.com) unveiled two new DX format Nikkor lenses--the AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED and AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED. The lenses are optimized for Nikon's DSLR cameras. Despite the long zoom range of the AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED, the lens is compact and lightweight. The lens utilizes ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) glass to minimize chromatic aberrations, and Silent Wave Motor technology for fast and quiet autofocusing.
B. SINAR BRON IMAGING (www.sinarbron.com) has announced its latest view camera, the Limited Edition Sinar x3. The x3 offers the best features from Sinar's View Camera line, including Sinar gear driven movements, the company's unique focusing technique, and the ability to control the electronic between-the-lens shutters of Sinaron Digital CMV lenses without the need for additional cables. When using the camera with a Sinar digital back, sharpness can be focused with pixel accuracy via “live video.”
C. KANEMATSU (www.kgdigital.com) introduced the new Shinko S1245 Digital Printer. The printer offers borderless 8- x10-inch dye-sub output. Prints are produced in as little as 30 seconds, up to 120 prints per hour. The printer uses dye-sub roll media, and a roll can yield 280 8x10 prints.
D. NIK MULTIMEDIA, INC. (www.nikmultimedia.com) announced the upgraded version of its digital image sharpening software--nik Sharpener Pro 2.0. This plug-in to Adobe Photoshop and other image editing applications is designed to address the image-rendering characteristics of different printing processes (traditional halftone, dye-sublimation inkjet, and digital photographic) and even differences between inkjet printer manufacturers, optimizing the image for the desired method of output. New features in this version include 16-bit compatibility, a larger preview area, and new tools that offer finer control of where sharpening is applied to an image.
E. RTS, INC. (www.rtsphoto.com) introduced the Bowens Espirit Gemini monoblocs. The Espirit Gemini monoblocs can be powered from either a battery or AC power. The Gemini GM500 is a 500ws unit. A 1,000ws kit contains two 500ws heads with accessories. Bowens' Travel-Pak, for on-location use, powers two heads with one pack, with a total power-up to 1,500ws when using three heads.
F. PHOTOFLEX (www.photoflex.com) launched its Lowel Omni Connector, which is designed to complement the Lowel Tota and DP tungsten lighting fixtures--hot lights used for digital photography. The new Omni Connector features a Teflon washer rotation system that facilitates easy softbox positioning, as well as a cast-aluminum outer ring with brass screws, which allows you to mount the connector to directly onto the front of the light.
