DxO Labs
DxO Labs (www.dxo.com) announced the beginning of a DxO Optics Pro v5 public beta-testing period for users running the software on the Apple Mac platform. The free public beta, available in English only, will run for several weeks. Users are invited to provide their feedback at the company’s website. The public beta for Mac features the new breakthrough RAW converter and noise-removal technology unveiled in the Windows version; support for the Canon EOS 40D and Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III, as well as Nikon D300 and D3 camera bodies; and improvements to the existing functionality of the software.

Hoodman (www.hoodmanusa.com) released a new patent-pending D-3 HoodCap, which snaps into place using the mounting points built into the D-3. The D-3 HoodCap is optically clear and comes with a scratch-resistant coating to protect the LCD screen, streamlining the entire viewing process.

Kingston Technology
Kingston Technology Company (www.kingston.com) released its first Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS)–validated USB Flash drive, the DataTraveler BlackBox, shipping immediately in 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB capacities. The FIPS Level 2 standard requires the DT BlackBox to run a power-on self-test, which verifies that the encryption architecture is functioning each time it’s plugged into a USB port. Beyond NIST certification, the DataTraveler BlackBox features 256-bit hardware-based AES encryption via a dedicated processor that automatically encrypts and decrypts data on the fly. The drive automatically locks down after 10 consecutive failed password attempts, thus helping to prevent unauthorized access if the drive is lost, stolen, or misplaced. It works with the Windows Operating System; no Mac compatibility.
