Canon (www.usa.canon.com) announced the EOS-1Ds Mark III, a 21.1 megapixel, full-frame sensor, DIGIC III upgrade of the 1Ds Mark II. Its five-frame-per-second shooting rate for bursts of up to 56 Large/Fine (21-megapixel) JPEGS or 12 RAW images makes it ideal for location-based fashion photography and other commercial applications. The compact, rugged, lighter-weight magnesium alloy body further enhances ease of use and performance out of the studio. The EOS-1Ds Mark III is scheduled to begin shipping in November at an estimated selling price of $7,999 (same price as the EOS-1Ds Mark II).

Nikon Inc. (www.nikonusa.com) announced the D3, with a 12.1 effective megapixel FX-format (full-format) CMOS sensor. With the fastest startup time, shortest viewfinder blackout time, and shortest shutter lag of any DSLR, as well as the capability to shoot up to nine fps at full FX-format resolution, the D3 is the world's fastest DSLR in its class (as of August 2007, among cameras featuring an imaging sensor similar to the size of 35mm film). Also featuring Liveview and a sensitivity range of ISO 200 to 6,400 at normal setting, the D3 is scheduled to be available in November at an estimated selling price of $4,999.95.
