The International Photographic Council (IPC) held its annual New Year's Luncheon at the United Nations in New York City on February 15. IPC is a multinational nonprofit organization of the United Nations dedicated to increasing worldwide recognition of photography as a universal language.

Advertising and marketing executives, manufacturers, dealers, distributors, and industry press representatives gathered to honor IPC Hall of Fame Award winner David M. Ritz, chairman and CEO of Ritz Camera Centers, Inc. Ritz was introduced by IPC board member Ted McGrath. For Ritz, who is well-respected and well-liked within the photoimaging community, the IPC Hall of Fame Award is but the most recent accolade from his peers. He accepted the PMA Hall of Fame Award in February 2002 for his contributions to the photographic industry, and was named the PMDA Person of the Year in 2005.

After presenting Ritz with his Hall of Fame medal, IPC president James Chung acknowledged the important support role played by Ritz's wife, Robyn, and presented her with U.N. mementos to honor that role.

Matt Knickerbocker, who is IPC's vice president, plus chairperson of the luncheon, a Fujifilm vice president, and president of the PhotoImaging Manufacturers and Distributors Association, introduced keynote speaker Gary Shapiro. Shapiro, president and CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), delivered a provocative update on the consumer electronics marketplace, including how convergence with the content and technology communities has changed the once-narrow product category into a booming industry. He went on to describe the support CEA gives to its 2,100 members worldwide.

The IPC thanks the following companies for their support of the 2007 New Year's Luncheon: PlatinumóCanon U.S.A., CSJ Media Inc. (Homes & Land of Hilton Head magazine), Cygnus Business Media, Fujifilm U.S.A., Inc., Nikon Inc., and ToCad America. GoldóCasio, Eastman Kodak Co., Epson America, Leica Camera, Lifetouch, Panasonic, and Tiffen.
