Load Up on POP Items Now and Get a Jump on the Competition
by Diane Berkenfeld
Ok, reality check. As of this writing, there are only 146 shopping
days left until Christmas!
Thankfully though, that's still plenty of time to stock up on all
the cute and quirky point of purchase (POP) novelties and other
holiday items before the hustle and bustle of the gift giving
season.
So, just as Santa Claus is putting together his list of good little
boys and girls deserving of Christmas goodies, many of your regular
customers are putting together their lists of big ticket items to
buy, gifts for the all encompassing workplace grab-bag, and for
those folks relegated to the card recipient-only list.
Besides all of the gifts to be given, there are many holiday
oriented items for consumers to decorate their own homes with. The
family tree wouldn't look the same if there weren't photo ornaments
hanging on its branches. And what are decorations without holiday
themed photo albums and frames to display happy moments from days
gone by?
Its All in the Cards... and Frames
For this coming holiday season, Neil Enterprises (www.neilenterprises.com) introduced Hug-A-Frames.
Hug-A-Frames come in two types-a Santa and a Snowman, which each
hold one 4x6-inch photo. The frames are individually boxed in an
assorted pack of 12.
Carr (www.burnesofboston.com) has set out to color the
holidays cranberry. Their new rich, earthy cranberry collection
includes elegant photo frames in ceramic, and plush materials. The
frames come in a variety of sizes to display photos from 3x3- to
5x7-inches in size.
In the midst of all the craziness in the world these days, many
people don't have time to sit down and write long letters. For
those folks, there are a large variety of sayings to be paired with
photos that you can print on your minilab or kiosk. Whether you
have gone the digital route, or still have an analog minilab in
your store, you can find photo card designs.
Aperion (www.aperion.com) released their collection of 175
digital card designs at the beginning of this year, and will be
adding more holiday designs in the next month-just in time for the
holiday rush. Many of the designs that Aperion has introduced
celebrate holidays other than just the winter ones of Christmas,
Hanukah, and Kwanza. Photo card designs come in Easter, Graduation,
New Baby Announcement and Thank You styles.
Nothing's better than receiving a photo of darling children in
their holiday best. No kids? How about a jovial photo of a prized
pet perched by the tree with a set of felt antlers upon its
head.
Some of the retailers we know with in-store studios bring in a
Santa Claus, and offer their customers a convenient holiday
photo-op. Selling printed photo greetings, or reprints and slip-in
cards or slip-in postcards become an easy sell.
Photo Tidings (www.phototidings.com) offers an extensive collection
of digital templates for a variety of sizes of holiday cards, as
well as masks for producing photo greeting cards on an analog
minilab. Check out their catalog for the new designs added this
year.
Another new item this year are Holiday Enclosure card templates
that let you print 2-up cards on a 4x6-inch print which can feature
a personalized greeting. Mounts are also available for these
prints.
Also new this year are templates for Holiday Photo Gift Tags. Four
designs come together on a 4x8-inch print. Photo Tidings offers a
number of special packages that incorporate multiple holiday
digital templates, which come with display prints for your
countertop.
Pakor (www.pakor.com) offers both lithos and digital files of
its collection of holiday, seasonal and occasion designs for photo
greetings. Pakor also offers a holiday postcard series for
4x6-prints.
