Snap Shots


A new exhibition of digital photographs entitled Worlds Within Worlds will open in San Fransisco on October 2; and in New York on October 30. Worlds Within Worlds will open at Hawaii's Pacific Center of Photography on January 14, 2002. More than 50 images will be on view from 13 photographers. The exhibition is sponsored by Olympus America and Pictorico Ink Jet Media.

© Annie Leibovitz Nature's Last Great Places
In observance of the Nature Conservancy's 50th anniversary, an exhibition entitled In Response to Place: Photographs from the Nature Conservancy's Last Great Places will be on view at the Corcoran Gallery of Art from September 15 through December 31, 2001. The exhibit includes 130 photographs, including works by Annie Leibovitz, Sally Mann, and Mary Ellen Mark. After the exhibit ends at the Corcoran Gallery, it will begin a four-year nationwide tour.

Professional Techniques for the Wedding Photographer, revised edition, by author and photographer George Schaub, photographs by Ken Sklute (ISBN 0-8174-5602-3) is now available from Amphoto Books. The book features a complete shooting script for a wedding day, including both formals and candid photography that couples desire. The business side of wedding photography is also discussed, including booking and completing the sale.

Space Station, the first-ever IMAX 3D will take audiences on an incredible cinematic journey of discovery into the Space Station through the magic of IMAX 3D technology. Twenty-five astronauts and cosmonauts were trained as filmmakers on lights, cameras and sound to shoot the footage. Space Station, scheduled for release in spring 2002, is produced by IMAX Space Ltd., and sponsored by Lockheed Martin Corporation, in co-operation with NASA. Between December 1998 and July 2001, more than 69,000 feet of 65mm film negative will have been flown into space and then brought back to Earth to produce this giant-screen adventure.
Crimes and Photography
Court TV will journey into the world of crime photography with Shots in the Dark, a look at photography and its intersection with the criminal world, on October 2 at 10:00 pm. The documentary examines developments through the history of crime photography. A companion book will also be published entitled Shots in the Dark: True Crime Pictures by Gail Buckland.
Official Sports Photographers
Getty Images has announced that its Allsport brand has signed agreements with the 2001 Goodwill Games organizers, USA Hockey, and the College Sports Information Directors of America to be the official photographer for the three governing bodies and associations.
Under these agreements, Allsport will provide press and editorial professionals with real-time access to images from the 2001 Goodwill Games, USA Hockey events during the 2002 Winter Olympic Games and more.
Allsport has also been named an official photographic partner of the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Association.

Robert Frank: A Retrospective from the Collection will be on view at The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, Texas through Octover 14th. Fourty-seven of Frank's best works are on display. Five of Frank's films are also being screened. The photograph pictured here is entitled, Paris, 1951.
