Whitech Photo Tellers Seamlessly Connect to Xerox Digital Presses
Whitech recently enabled its Photo.Teller kiosk software to seamlessly interact with Xerox's FreeFlow imposition software that's used with the Xerox DocuColor and iGen digital presses. The seamless link gives retailers and lab owners the ability to send jobs from the Photo.Tellers to the Xerox printers "right out of the box." According to Korosh Delnawaz, president, Whitech USA, "Our aim is to create a solution that has formulas that have been proven to be successful and are repeatable."
According to Delnawaz, the Photo.Tellers convert the order into a language that Xerox's FreeFlow software understands for output on the DocuColor or iGen. Otherwise, an employee would have to manually lay the job out in the FreeFlow imposition software. The software will also connect to existing bindery equipment and is designed for forward compatibility for future equipment.
With this solution, Whitech has made it easy for photo specialists and lab owners to just send jobs to the printing press-"Taking manual labor out of it," says Delnawaz.
"In order to really do the business [that the DocuColor or iGen is capable of] properly, you've got to utilize the power of the press and create an automatic link between it and the Photo.Teller," explains Delnawaz.
"The Photo.Teller will send print job files to all machines (Xerox, Riobi, etc.), but we've made it a flow-through to make it easier for the retailers/labs" when using Xerox digital presses, Delnawaz explains.
Basically the seamless integration is an extra step Whitech is providing for its customers. Xerox worked with Whitech to make it easier for Photo.Teller users to integrate and output the 300 to 500 products possible from the Photo.Tellers to the Xerox printers.
Thinking Out of the Box
Another suggestion that Delnawaz has for retailers and lab owners is to place kiosks in other shops-outside of the photo industry. Delnawaz even suggests that the industrious businessman could become a wholesaler of print output. If you're the only one in your area with a digital printing press, wholesale your print services out to other dealers or labs.
He also suggests that others could take a hint from one of the lab owners he recently spoke with, who has a sliding scale on prices for printed products. For example, a 4x8 greeting card with one photo would be basic (say, 99 cents); but one with three photo windows would be priced higher at $1.99.
Make basic, automatic jobs cheap, and custom designs and work more expensive-in essence, offering many lines of services on inventory.
"Open your mind; become creative in the way you do business and market your business." Bringing them [business owners] out of their shells, and out of their stores, says Delnawaz, is one way he's trying to help business owners help themselves be more profitable.

Fujifilm Solution Provides Robust Production Tools for Labs and Retailers
Fujifilm recently introduced a new software application from DigiLabs that expands the array of solutions available to labs, prolabs, and on-site photo retailers. The software allows for the creation of photo books, photo calendars, greeting cards, and other customized products using the Xerox Phaser 7760 and Xerox DocuColor printers.
Available to both professional labs and retail photofinishers, the solution enables customers to use Fujifilm's offering of these Xerox digital printers, consumables, and binding and finishing equipment to create products that meet customer demands.
The DigiLabs software suite runs on Windows XP, and features an easy-to-use interface for building photo books with basic templates and text fields. The calendar and card modules are also designed for users with basic PC skills.
