2003 Photo Imager of the Year:

The Color Place

This year Photographic Processing magazine is spotlighting The Color Place in Dallas, TX as our 2003 Photo Imager of the Year. With three locations in the heavily populated Dallas/Ft. Worth area, The Color Place services some of the nation's premier corporations, advertising agencies, professional photographers and museums among its customers, including such prominent players as American Airlines, J.C. Penney and Texas Instruments.

To what does The Color Place owe its success? Their adoption and involvement in new technology, paramount dedication to customer service, and effective and aggressive sales force - all elements that have propelled them beyond the competition and made them Photographic Processing's 2003 recipient.

Founded in 1972 by its current owner Rex Jobe, it was one of the first labs in the country to take advantage of and incorporate digital technology into its operation for the production of high-quality color presentation graphics. By the mid 80s, the lab had invested over $1 million in the most advanced digital equipment. Today, with a large volume of jobs being digitally oriented, the firm still invests in state-of-the-art equipment to stay on the cutting edge. The Color Place prides itself on being the One Graphic Resource - a firm that has no limits or boundaries on delivering a full spectrum of visual communications, encompassing traditional, digital imaging, retouching, high-res scanning, large-format printing, trade show graphics, POP, billboards, vehicle wraps and more.

On another note, Cygnus Imaging Group, which includes Digital Imaging, Photo Trade News, Photographic Processing, and Studio Photography & Design magazines, has launched Imaging-info.com, an online portal for professional photographers, graphic artists, stock photo houses, design firms, specialty camera stores, minilabs, photofinishers and commercial photography studios.

Imaging-info.com provides an "Up to the Minute" news feed with the latest news and information about the photo and imaging industry from around the world. Other features include a rotating online poll about current hot industry topics, and an interactive bulletin board where visitors can meet and discuss important issues and live webcasting of press conferences, seminars and trade shows.
